Umbrella Services in Poland: Payroll, Contracting, and More

veritahr.com 1 miesiąc temu

There is a market for umbrella services in Poland today. Companies need to find solutions to opening their businesses or setting up a satellite office in Poland. This often means payrolling or contracting local personnel. It might also mean renting an office, leasing a car, gaining contracts with mobile phone operators or internet providers. There is a lot to consider. However, there are companies in Poland who provide Umbrella Services. This includes payroll, contracting, and more.

There is a host of providers in Poland reaching out to win outsourcing projects from companies located in the Nordics, Western Europe, the UK or even wider like the U.S. What is less popular is a company in Poland that has expertise in umbrella services. But more importantly one who explains the process in English on their website.

That doesn’t mean there aren’t a handful of suppliers who use the word ‘umbrella services’ to explain their services. Some of them have even been on the market for a few years. Do they have the relevant experience contracting employees to meet the needs of large international corporations. We looked into some of them.

Who Offers Umbrella Services in Poland?

First on the list needs to be Verita HR. On the market since 2010, Verita HR offers a wide range of outsourcing services including ‘umbrella services’. This service is part of the DNA at Verita HR, and currently four clients are using the companies’ services to employ their staff in Poland.

Initially the first orders came on the back of collaboration with the Hungarian embassy in Warsaw, the German-Polish Chamber of Commerce, Professionals in Warsaw, Professionals in Krakow, and even ASPIRE (the Outsourcing association based in Krakow). Sometimes there were also referrals from other partner recruitment businesses from across Europe.

Another company offering umbrella services in Poland is Contractor Taxation. A quick look at the company reveals that the leadership team has no specific experience in the Polish market. In fact, the company works with a partner in Poland rather than offer umbrella services in Poland itself. Although the company’s website states it doesn’t charge for their referral to a Polish partner, there may be hidden costs further down the line.

Next on the list is Umbrella Selector. Interestingly, two of the people behind this company are also named on the Contractor Taxation page. In fact, the company offers almost the same service as Contractor Taxation.

You must dig a little deeper to find Bradford Jacobs. The company offers a service called Professional Employer Organisation (PEO). Apparently, using a PEO in Poland means there is no need to set-up a legal entity and allows companies to start doing business the next day. The company is very keen to highlight its experience in payroll and other employment law. However, after a quick check on LinkedIn, the entire Bradford Jacobs team is located outside of Poland. And none of them have any experience in Poland…

Who are the rest of the companies offering Umbrella Services in Poland today?

The French-sounding Partenaire Pologne is next. The company has been in Poland since 1999, however there seems to be a decidedly French and perhaps industrial approach to the way the company’s services are presented. Partenair Pologne also offers fundraising services in Poland. Perhaps they don’t have as much expertise as a company entering Poland from another sector would need. There are a few employees located in Krakow listed on LinkedIn, but only two of them seem like Polish employment specialists.

Finally, Skalis, located in Warsaw, has a very clear website where companies or freelancers are equally serviced. In the case of Skalis the umbrella services the company sells are called ‘Employer of Record’ service. Before you get excited that you have located a first-class supplier. Skalis has neglected LinkedIn a little. There are no employees listed under the company in Poland. It’s hard to establish if a company has the experience without a few people listed against the company on social media.

Why you should choose Verita HR to help with Umbrella Services

With Verita HR many of the payroll team update their profiles on LinkedIn regularly. Not only the payroll team, but the account management team as well. But they don’t refer to ‘umbrella services’ on their profiles. This is because of one simple reason. In Poland, umbrella services are often referred to as ‘leaseback’ outsourcing services. As in ‘leasing back’. This isn’t the case in all companies, but it is with Verita HR.

Where did the term ‘leaseback’ come from? The origins are not easy to explain, however in the UK there has been a service that companies have used for decades called ‘client supplied’. This refers to a temporary or outsourcing recruitment process where the client supplies the candidate and not the recruitment company. This is ‘client supplied’, and for the purposes of this story it is also ‘leaseback’.

So what is the difference between a company already located in Poland and one located abroad using the leaseback service? Not much. In fact, there is no difference.

The difference can be found in the ancillary services that Verita HR offers. This includes obtaining a work permit. It includes hiring an office. This can even include arranging a rental property for an employee, or a company car. The list of additional services can be anything related to running a company in Poland. And Verita HR can confidently offer all of them. It also has the required references.

When do you need Leaseback or Umbrella Services?

Leaseback itself is often used to move headcount from a company to a third-party supplier. This can help with efficiency and often comes with a crediting period. Umbrella Services are a little different as they can help a company swiftly engage an employee in a jurisdiction that the company have no entity within.

Hence the answer is not clear. Companies already in Poland with a local entity can use leaseback services to support their local business. Companies who are looking to enter Poland should opt for umbrella services.
